Gone in the blink of an eye on November 5th, 2015 while enjoying dinner with his daughter at the cottage he loved. George lived every day like it was his last, until it was. Born in 1932 and brought up in Toronto’s Rosedale, George led Camp Kagawong’s sailing program, captained the UTS hockey team, flew planes in Ottawa and started businesses ahead of their time. He was a family man in the best sense, first in Willowdale then in Peterborough where he taught his children what it is to make a difference: running charitable campaigns and business associations, sitting on boards and volunteering at the ground level. He was genuinely interested in everything, whether the lives of the young people he knew, world affairs and politics, his own spiritual journey, or the success of his damn Leafs. Predeceased by his wife and great love Carolyn, and siblings Charlie (Betty) and Anne. Son of Wilfred, lawyer and General Manager of Massey Hall, and Margaret (nee Creelman) who gave George his sense of humour and soft heart. Dad to daughter Margaret and son Douglas (Jacqueline) who will continue to cherish him with all their hearts. ‘Jesse’ to his grandchildren Lucas and Victoria, the apples of his eye who he was so very proud of. Missed by sister-in-law Elaine Bruce (Ron Harrigan), nieces and nephews, the many friends he made over his lifetime, and his loyal doggy Sandy. Friends and family are invited to visit Friday November 13th between 4 and 7pm, or attend a celebration of life Sunday, November 15th at 2pm, both at ST. JAMES UNITED CHURCH, 221 Romaine Street, Peterborough.
