<p>COPPAWAY, Myra Joyce (Cummings) - Passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the age of 86. Joyce was born on January 26, 1929 to Gertrude (Taylor) and Wesley Cummings at the family farm in Lakehurst. Joyce married Aubrey Bruce Coppaway on February 26, 1948 and celebrated 51 years prior to his passing on January 19, 2000. Lovingly remember by her eight children, Gloria (Ricky), Lillian, Noble, Peter, Penny (Stu), Adam (Michelle), Bertha, and Obie (Samantha). Joyce was proud of her 8 children, 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 19 great, great grandchildren and 4 great great great grandchildren, and 1 great great great great grandchild. Joyce had three brothers; Austin, Noble, Wayne (Shin) and eight sisters; Elva (Cobe), Mary, Ida, Marion, Jude (Tootsie), Debbie, Sally Ann, and Doreen. </p><p> Joyce walked about 3 miles each day to attend school then worked at various stores and farms in the Lakehurst and Buckhorn area. Joyce worked many years as a waitress, maid, clerk and crafts maker at Whetung's in Curve Lake. Joyce loved making moccasins and buckskin jackets, and her masterpiece was her husband's regalia that he wore as Chief. She loved her Bingo outings with family and friends especially Luella. Her favourite winnings was in 1970 with a choice of a new car or $2,000. She took the cash. She enjoyed being a member of the Lakefield Legion for over 35 years. She participated in the various bingo, darts, bowling and card tournaments. Her grandchildren were surprised to hear that she once was a stock car driver in the powder puff (women only) races at Bell City Racetrack in Selwyn.</p><p> At Joyce’s request, cremation has been entrusted to COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE FUNERAL HOME. A memorial service at Joyce’s lakeshore, and interment at her husband’s gravesite will take place in the spring.
