I was Sandra's first piano pupil when they moved to Port Hope. (As my lesson was at 5:30, I was usually greeted by John - I would then have TWO teachers from which to learn, and a great musical debate, which got me out of playing those hideous scales !) I am saddened that I found out about her passing just today. However, I wish to pass on my most heartfelt condolences to her remaining family. She was an extremely gifted and caring person, who served as a wonderful mentor. To hear her play was magic personified. She poured pure emotion into every note she played, and probably never realized how much joy she brought to others through her gift. She not only taught me the notes, but also the love of, and in, the music.
I left Ontario after graduating university and lost touch with the Carltons. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her in Port Hope.
