SORRIE, William James – (September 18, 1938 – June 21, 2012) After many years of serious health hurdles, there will be no more remarkable recoveries for Bill. He died at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. As a predestinarian, Bill would say his time was up. A proud Peterborough native, Bill attended Central Public School and Peterborough Collegiate Institute. His education continued as he travelled extensively overseas for several years. He wanted to be known as a bibliophile, nature lover, history buff and one who celebrated his Scottish heritage. Bill was a fountain of knowledge and a volcano of opinions! Remembered by wife, Janice (Judd); daughter, Jessica; brother, Charles and wife, Lynda (all of Peterborough); brother-in-law, Evan Judd (London, Ontario); cousins in Canada; USA; UK; friends near and far. Uncle to Ingrid Sorrie (Peterborough); Nicholas Sorrie (Paris, France). Predeceased by parents, William Duguid Sorrie (1958) and Mary Jane Batten (1986). In 1994, when cardiac issues dominated, Bill was forced to leave his job at the GM Truck Plant in Oshawa. With timely interventions, hospital stays, excellent care and steely determination, Bill had several bonus years. That meant he could spend time with friends and family and visit his “ranch” in Dummer Township. He was very happy there. Bill was fortunate to be under the expert care of Cardiologist, Dr. Bill Hughes and staff at the Kawartha Cardiology Clinic (esp. Sandra and Anna); Family Physician, Dr. Steve Senior (always there); Nephrologist, Dr. Vince Cheung and visiting nurses from VON (esp. Marg Scott). Private family arrangements have been entrusted to the Community Alternative Funeral Home, 83 Hunter St. W., Peterborough. If desired, condolences to the family, or donations to the Ottawa Civic Hospital Heart Institute or the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation (A4 or Palliative Care Unit) may be made at www.CommunityAlternative.ca or by calling 705-742-1875.
