Jennifer Hodges Renfrew, Ontario Obituary

Jennifer Hodges

HODGES, Jennifer Kim Patricia November 14, 1953 – March 21, 2017 Forever in our hearts, Jennifer passed away peacefully on March 21 surrounded by the love and devotion of her family and girlfriends that she so deserved in her final moments. Jennifer was predeceased by her beloved Jeff (Steele) of Renfrew. Beloved daughter of James Hodges and the late Monica Martha (nee Monette). Dearest sister of Cynthia, Susan and Tim. Fond sister-in-law to Bryant, Kate and Michael. Kind and quirky aunt to Timothy. Loved by her cousins Amanda, Cathy and Louise. Great friend to her mother-in-law Betty Steele. Jenny loved - and was so loved by - her best friends Bev, Debbie, Evelyn, Linda and Theresa. She spent many years working and enjoying times together with her loyal friends. Jennifer's passion was with the hospitality business and she enjoyed her summers with the Polar Continental Shelf Program culinary team. She had loads of energy and a very strong work ethic. She was happiest running errands for everyone she knew, skiing at Calabogie Peaks, had a gift for finding hats and other treasures at local vintage shops, and baking and cooking for friends and family. Oh, the sweetest desserts ever and the creamiest scalloped potatoes are legendary! Jenny certainly inherited her maternal grandmother's Irish temperament: a mix of stubborness, personal charm and warmth, and a wit that shone through adversity. She had a vivacious spirit and a strong independent streak. Jennifer showed incredible strength throughout her two year journey with ovarian cancer, remarked on by all who knew her or who were members of her medical team. She was a fighter and always held out hope that she would win her battle. An Old Irish Blessing is so fitting in this tribute to Jennifer: May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Jennifer's life will be celebrated on May 6, at 11 a.m. with a graveside ceremony at Rosebank Cemetery, Haley Station. Jennifer received the very best in oncology care at the Ottawa General Hospital. She had a fantastic medical team, including Drs. Hopkins, Faught, Fung Kee Fung, Le and Weberpals. She received end-of-life care at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital under the care of Dr. Strader, whom she so admired. Remembrances in Jennifer's name can be made to : Dr. Barbara Vanderhyden, University of Ottawa, Ovarian Cancer Research Program Fund MD236N or Renfrew Victoria Hospital Auxilliary.
