Lloyd George Brittain Obituary

Passed away peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital on January 10, 2021. Lloyd was born October 8, 1929 in Niagara-on-the-Lake and lived his entire life in Niagara Region. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Lois E.M. (Holland) Brittain, son Paul M. Brittain (Marianne) and daughter Janet L. Hansen; Grandchildren John L. Brittain (Megan), Sarah A. Brittain (Ian Dale), and Laura J. Goddard Greatgrandchildren Liam, Conner, Madelynn, Ruby-Ann, Dane, Isaac and Rosalee. He is also survived by his brother, Frederick W. Smythe and sister-in-law Marilyn Smythe, many, nieces, nephews, cousins and their extended families. Lloyd was predeceased by his sister and her husband, Gladys and George Coote, his brothers and spouses James A. Brittain, D.P.M. (Lily), Gordon H. Brittain(Mary), brother Owille C. Smythe and sister-in-law Beverly Smythe. In 1950 Lloyd was employed by Lincoln County Registry Office as a clerk. He learned the Land Registry system and Land Titles system of recording property ownership. In 1964 he was appointed Registrar of Deeds and Master of Titles for Lincoln County and served through a period of prolific subdivision growth for the city of St. Catharines, the beginning of conversion of the County to the Land Titles system and the formation of the Regional Municipality of Niagara. He resigned this position in 1973 and pursued other occupations and interests. Lloyd was a self taught woodworker and enjoyed repairing, refinishing and even reproducing of antique pine furniture, for himself and others. He and Lois have enjoyed travelling to the East and West coasts of Canada, several American States and throughout Ontario. Family was veryimportant to Lloyd. He spent many hours researching both parents' ancestry, including visits to many cemeteries in small towns of Ontario. His happiest trips were to the annual Brittain/Smythe family picnics, each one at a different park, beach or conservation area in Ontario. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private committal service for immediate family will be held.
