Ruth Margaret Morrison (Nairn), resident of Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys, passed away peacefully at St. Marys Memorial Hospital with her family at her side on May 6, 2016 in her 90th year.
Beloved wife of Bill Morrison who predeceased her on June 2, 2009. Loving mother of Ron (Debra) Morrison and Nancy (Darwin) Dietz. Ruth was loved by grandchildren Meghan Morrison (Ben Aarts), Blake Morrison (Alexis Kozak), Josh Dietz (Lucia Mulder), Abby Dietz (Barry Campbell), Brette Dietz (Kelly Boven), Erica Dietz (Blair Madu). Cherished great-grandmother to Isabella and Olive Aarts, Harlow Keys Jagger and Foxton Dietz, Max and Sydney Campbell, Tyler and Trace Boven. Also survived by sisters- in-law Doris Nairn, Pat Nairn, Mary Buuck, and Rita Morrison and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Predeceased by; parents William E. Nairn and Adella (Bell), brothers Jack, Aubrey, Ross, Leo, Donald and Barry Nairn, sister Norma and her husband Derek Clarke, grandson William Garnet Morrison (infancy), and sister-in-law Muriel and her husband Jack Finnie.
Ruth was a lover of horses, a talented softball player and pitcher, later sharing the love of the sport as a coach for local teams. Ruth farmed with husband Bill for many years in Fullarton Township After retiring to 163 Perth Rd., she became an active member of the Motherwell-Avonbank Presbyterian church where she and Bill were married in 1952. Ruth enjoyed many games including crokinole, cribbage, euchre and solving puzzles. The knowledge and skill of these games was eagerly passed onto her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also involved with community projects such as the Fullerton Centennial Ball Park, Committee member for the creation of the historical book “A Place Called Motherwell” and an avid knitter of finger puppets distributed to local hospitals and charities. Ruth will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Visitation at the Andrew L. Hodges Funeral Home, 47 Wellington St. S. St. Marys (519-284-2820) on Tuesday, May 10, from 7 – 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Avonbank Cemetery.
