On Wednesday, May 11th, 2016, Shelley Blidner passed away at Stratford General Hospital at the age of 60 years.
Shelley, who was born in Montreal, moved to London in the mid-90’s after a successful career in publishing. As her health deteriorated, she moved to St. Marys and then to Stratford where she has been living at Woodland Towers for the last ten years. Despite severely debilitating and overwhelming physical challenges, Shelley created a home and found a community there. She enjoyed her diverse friendships, assisted her neighbours, and was an active and enthusiastic volunteer both at the Towers and at Spruce Lodge. She not only participated in the Towers community but also took a leadership role. She will be missed by her legion of friends and acquaintances and her extended family; Shelley is survived by her three older sisters and their families. We would like to extend special appreciation firstly to the St. Marys Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, Ontario. The loving and compassionate care of the nursing and medical staff there helped to turn Shelley’s life around at a critical time. Any donations can be made to their “Someone I know” Memorial Hospital Foundation. We would also like to acknowledge the untiring and ongoing support of the Stratford V.O.N. and the staff of Woodland Towers.
A memorial service, followed by a luncheon, in honour of Shelley will be held at Woodland Towers, 639 West Gore Street, Stratford N5A 7N2 on Monday, May 30th at 11 a.m. in the Griffith Auditorium.
