Crerar Robertson Obituary

Crerar Robertson, 86, passed away peacefully on September 03, 2014 at Sunnyside Retirement Home in Kitchener, Ontario. He was born on February 5, 1928 to Alexander and Catherine Robertson (nee Fleming) of Lisbon. Crerar met his true love, Margaret (Peggy) Chalmers, in the first grade at Hampstead School. They were married in 1951 and settled in Stratford where they lived for 56 years before moving to Waterloo. Crerar worked for Bell Canada for 42 years. He retired in 1988 as Network Maintenance Manager, having twice been recognized for meritorious service. During Crerar and Peggy's time in Stratford, Crerar sang for over 40 years in the Senior Choir at St. John's United Church, served as Chair of the church's Board of Managers and of the Stratford Kiwanis Club, receiving the Mel Osborne Award, and played the bagpipes at numerous occasions and tattoos as a past Pipe Major for the North Easthope Pipe Band. Crerar was a Master of the Wilmot Masonic Lodge, a District Deputy Grand Master for Waterloo and a member of the Scottish Rite in Guelph, the Moore Sovereign Consistory in Hamilton and the Mocha Temple Shrine Club in London. In 1985 Crerar and Peggy purchased their beloved cottage “Dunkeld” on the Bruce where they enjoyed many wonderful days with friends and family. Crerar will be deeply missed by his wife, Peggy, his daughter, Janet, and husband, Bill Woolfrey of Waterloo, his daughter, Catherine and husband, Marcus Kramer of Guelph, his son, Jamie and wife, Francine of Geraldton, his grandchildren, Evan and Cameron Woolfrey, and Owen and Emilie Robertson, and his step grandchildren, Timothy, Adrian, and Sarah Kramer. The family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff at Grand River Hospital Freeport, to the CCAC team and staff at the Village of Winston Park, and to the staff at Sunnyside Long Term Care for their kindness and dedication to Crerar over the past months. Crerar was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers, Fleming and Evan Robertson. The family will receive visitors at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home in Stratford from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, September 08, 2014. A masonic service will take place at 6:30 p.m. prior to the visitation. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 09. A light luncheon will be served following the service.
