Elizabeth Scott Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Scott (Green), born June 8, 1930, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2019 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Scott, her son, Brian and 2 daughters Judy Matheson (Neil) and Barb Persad. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Dave Persad in 2015. She also leaves behind 6 devoted grandchildren, Flora (Matt), Anne, Margaret (Nick), Dyer, James (Abbey) and Jared (Jamie). Betty will be missed by sisters-in-law, Reta Green and Jean Davidson (Jerry), brothers-in-law, Ken Scott (Mary) and Murray Scott (Helen) as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest pride was her family, and she valued her close friends. Betty enjoyed gardening, baking, quilting and country drives, especially in the autumn. A volunteer at TeleCare, one of the first “help lines,” she took pride in her involvement. She was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed the camaraderie of the other bowlers. She was an enthusiastic fan of the Blue Jays regardless of their stats. Betty and Jim ran a B & B (Pinewood Country Inn) for a few years near Mitchell, a dream come true for both of them. Betty had a wonderful sense of humour, even through her declining health, and liked to quote Woody Allen: “I'm not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens.” In closing, the most important thing to remember is that no one will ever give you a purpose. Every person has it in them to make their life worth living, or find and make their own personal meaning. Our mom led a life worth living and inspires us to do the same. A private family memorial will take place at a later date in her honour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation through the Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services website, or by calling the funeral home at 519-271-5062, or directly at www.heartandstroke.ca.
