Elsie Phyllis Conroy (nee Gudgeon), age 92, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Stratford General Hospital. Born in Northampton, England, daughter of the late Ernest Benjamin Gudgeon and Eliza (Elizabeth Elsie) Gilbert-Smith. Elsie was a war bride. She and her husband John were married on February 18, 1946 in England. They settled in Cobalt, Ontario. After retiring, they came to Stratford in 1990. Elsie was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Stratford, and a member of the Catholic Women’s League. Her husband John predeceased her in July, 2010. Dear mother of Terry Conroy, Ottawa, David Conroy (Joni), Ottawa, Janet Conroy, Stratford, John Conroy, Shelburne and Ann Quinn (Philip), Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Dear nana of Jennifer, Kimberly (Brian), Kevin, Shana, Sarah, Megan, Nathan & Rebecca. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney & Jacob. Predeceased by daughter-in-law Karen Conroy. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Stratford on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the VON Stratford Day Program, Stratford General Hospital Foundation MRI Campaign, or charity of one’s choice through the James A.
