Grace Herbert Stratford, Ontario Obituary

Grace Herbert

It is with sadness we announce the passing of our amazing Aunt Grace, age 96, on September 24, 2019. Dearly loved by her sister Eileen, sister-in-law Alice, three adoring nieces, Ellen, Anne and Mary, six grandnephews and niece and three great-grandniece and nephews. We extend our deepest gratitude to the caring team at Spruce Lodge. Farewell to our loving devoted sister, aunt and friend who will be remembered for her kindness and compassion toward others. A gentle Sunday school teacher at Parkview United Church who kindly asked the children not to eat the glue or chew the crayons; an aunt who kept Lifesavers in her purse to keep us quiet during church sermons; a golfer, with visor on, rushing with Eileen to the Mitchell Golf and Country Club for the weekly “girls’ night” golf and dine with friends. She will be missed and never forgotten! On a last visit when Aunt Grace’s health was failing, and in a quiet moment, she, in typical fashion, turned the focus away from herself and encouraged us to not grieve. Her wish is that all of us treasure life, be kind to one another, and make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond. We will be celebrating her life in the Chapel at Spruce Lodge this Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 1 pm. Donations to a charity of one’s choice may be made through Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services by stopping into the funeral home at 804 Ontario Street or by calling 519-271-5062.
