Esther Williamson Brown passed away peacefully on Feb 6, 2014. SHE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT THE ONLY WAY SHE KNEW: HEAD ON & UNFLINCHINGLY" Born in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland, Sept 3,1940. Esther is survived by her husband Roy, her daughter Marnie of Toronto and her son Alan of Australia; siblings, Barclay of Toronto, Anna of Oakville and Tam of Edinburgh; grandson Jackson of Australia and several nieces and nephews. Her parents had a small holding there in Auchtermuchty, with chickens and a fruit farm and raised 4 children ,2 boys & 2 girls; In 1949, the family moved to DUNBAR East Lothian where they bought a boarding house/hotel; Esther had a happy teenage life; she enjoyed tennis and field hockey and won several trophies in swimming and track and field. She went to Dunffermline College of Physical Education for 3 years and became a P.E. teacher. She married Dr. Elliot Williamson and after a couple of years, 1966 they emigrated to Oakville Ontario; divorced in 1978. They had two children; Marnie and Alan; Marnie, following with her mother’s taste, is now in a wine academy teaching; Alan owns a restaurant in Australia and has one son, Jackson her pride and joy: thus the trips to Aussie. She met Roy in 1981 and they married in 1987. Esther worked at Manulife Insurance Co. and became a C.L.U. She left that position to follow a senior executive who was setting up a new division for high end Estate Planning , PRUDENTIAL CANADA, where she ran the administration and claims department, Prudential Canada was subsequently bought out by RBC. She remained with them till 1996 when she retired and moved to Stratford; she continued for several years as a consultant. Esther became very active in her church, St Andrews Presbyterian and Rotary as well she became a part of a group who visit shut ins both in Rotary and in the church. She loved travelling, and developed a passion for SINGLE MALTS and was heavily involved in the setting up of the Scotch mist. Last year she was awarded Rotary's highest award, "THE PAUL HARRIS AWARD" of which she felt truly honored. Friends and relatives may call at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert St, Today from 2 to 4pm; A funeral service will follow at 5 pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, and as expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the STRATFORD ROTARY FOUNDATION.
