Obituary
James Dale (Jim) Turnbull (known as “JD” to his many former students at Mitchell District High School) age 92, of 82 Mornington Street, Stratford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 9, 2016. Born in North Bay, Ontario he was the son of the late John Fulton Turnbull and the former Jean Beckwith Craik and he grew up on Bramshott Farm near Orillia. Jim was educated at Upper Canada College in Toronto and served in the Canadian Infantry Corps during WWII, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. After graduating as an Engineer from the University of Toronto, he worked in the industry as a consultant, industrial and production engineer for 13 years followed by 25 years as a mathematics teacher at Mitchell District High School. Beloved husband of the late Margaret Jean Scott who predeceased him in 2012. Loving father of Peggy and her husband Dennis Rawe of Stratford, Nancy and her husband Richard Ganz of Almonte and Jane of Stratford. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Cheryl, Jim (Kana), Louisa, Shoshannah (Adam), Elisha (Justin),Natanyah and Micaiah and his great-grandchildren Bruce, Megan, Jakson, Jacob, Joshua and Ella. Jim is also survived by his sister Tibbie of Toronto. Besides his wife and parents, Jim is predeceased by his brother Norman of Orillia. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church, 41 Mornington Street, Stratford. Jim’s family wish to extend their sincere thanks to very special caregiver Jan Little, the V.O.N. and C.C.A.C and their caregivers for allowing Jim to remain at home during his final days.
