Obituary
Claire Juliette Gamble (nee McGillis) Oct. 11 1941 - April 22, 2021 It is with both sadness and relief that we announce the passing of Claire Gamble (nee McGillis), life partner to husband Gerry Gamble and mother to Marnee, Kathryn, and Nancy, and sister to Norm McGillis (wife Janice). She will be especially missed by her loving sons-in-law Mark Melchior, Allan Brett and Neil McLaughlin and her grandchildren Collin and Duncan Melchior, Madison and Austin Brett, and Paige and Matt McLaughlin. Claire was predeceased by her parents Leo and Juliette (nee Gauthier) McGillis and her in-laws Austin and Dorothy (nee Morrow) Gamble. Claire was known for her quick infectious smile, her lightning fast organizing skills, and her selfless caring nature. Many have been on the receiving end of her kindness, and even more have benefitted from all the events, parties, dinners she hosted and organized with friends and family. As a teacher in the Catholic Sudbury District School Board, she was much loved by her students and respected by her colleagues. She was a natural teacher, exhibiting patience and determination. She inspired those around her to have compassion, a lesson not lost on those who knew and loved her. Always, she was a role model - especially to her three daughters. She loved travelling with Gerry - this was the highlight of their retirement years together. Camp was their project that filled their time when they were not roaming the world. She especially loved to gather her family around, and all the grandchildren have special memories of their summers at camp with Nana and Grandad. Her dementia has been a very long journey and she has been missed by her family and friends for many years now. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Manor for their love and kindness in caring for Claire. They would also like to acknowledge and thank the Sudbury Alzheimer Society and Support Group. We hope to celebrate her life when the situation allows. In the meantime, to bring closure to this journey, there will be a streamed funeral service. Claire was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. Our hearts are heavy. Private family service will be held in the R. J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 at 11am. Family and friends are welcome to join the service which will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking here . In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the following charities: Alzheimer Society of Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay and Districts or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
