Kenneth McGilvary

In loving memory of Kenneth Picard McGilvary. Born January 1, 1915 in Mount Forest, Ontario. Predeceased after 39 years of a wonderful marriage to Harless W. McGilvary in 1987. Kenneth was the youngest of four children. Brothers Chester, Norman and sister Florence all predeceased, He is survived and greatly missed by nephew John McGilvary (wife Anne) in Calgary, AB, stepsons Neil Oberholzer (Sheran) and Dean Wenborne (Erla) in French River. He will also be very much missed by 9 grandchildren, a grand nephew, a grand niece and several great grandchildren. Kenneth left the Mount Forest area during the great depression to work with brother Chester in several of the N. Ontario gold camps. He eventually arrived in Sudbury to work for INCO at the Frood open pit. When the Second World War began he enlisted and spent 6 years in the RCAF military police. Most of those years were spent in England and after D day plus 3 in the European Theatre. On leaving the RCAF in 1945 he enjoyed a brief period in the Onaping Lake area and soon joined the then Ontario Department of Lands and Forests as a Game Warden. (Conservation Officer) In 1948 He married Harless and together they operated Sand Beach Lodge on the French River until their mutual interests took them to Florida where they enjoyed many happy years. Kenneth has enjoyed the hospitality, care and services at Meadowbrook Retirement Village for the last 3 and ½ years which, in turn, provided the opportunity for delightful visits by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kenneth was a big man in stature, in spirit and with an ever-present sense of humour. His generosity, kindness and loyalty to family and friends endeared him to all. He leaves his family with a great sense of loss but with wonderful memories.
