Elizabeth Wills Obituary

WILLS, Elizabeth Reta - Reunited with her beloved husband, Edmund, Elizabeth Reta Wills peacefully left us in her 97th year on Sunday 25 June 2017. Beth was born and raised in the community of Thorndale to the late Frank and Eva Wakeling in 1920. Beth lived her entire life on the farm: as a farm wife, a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother. She was also a community worker, unofficial archivist and especially a neighbour and friend to many. Beth is survived by son Floyd and daughter-in-law Gabriele (nee Lambert) Wills of Thorndale; daughter Ruth and son-in-law Frank Loreto (Georgetown, ON). Proud grandmother to Andrea (nee Wills) and husband Jeff Ramlogan (Milton); Jeff and wife Alyson (nee Black) Wills of Thorndale; Nora Loreto and partner Jesse Greener (Quebec City) and Evan and wife Rosa Loreto-Lee (Etobicoke). She was a loving great grandmother to Liam, Kyla and Lucas Ramlogan; Lena, Nellie and Clara Wills; Della Greener and Riel Loreto; Ellis and Arlo Loreto-Lee. Beth was predeceased by her husband Edmund (2005) and her brothers John Wakeling and Vern (Margueritta, nee Fitzgerald) Wakeling. Also, in-laws Edna (nee Wills) and William Maddox; Sadie (nee Wills) and Ellis Smith. Right until the end, her mind was encyclopedic. She was able to live in her own house until May. A charter member of the Crumlin Women’s Institute, she was devoted to her community. Beth was an active member of the former Crumlin United Church where she served with the United Church Women, the choir and as long-time organist; she was most recently a member of Dorchester United Church. Her cousins will remember her fondly for many things, but especially for continuing the annual Edwards family wiener roast into its fifth generation. Beth will be remembered for her hospitality, wisdom, grace and acceptance. She saw all people as children of God. No matter what ethnicity, religion or background, they were welcomed with respect and decency. The community has lost a pillar and her family will miss her dearly. Funeral arrangements are with Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 177 Dundas Street, Thamesford, ON. Visitation will be held Wednesday 28 June 2017 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday 29 June 2017 at 11:30 am at the Philadelphia Fellowship (former Crumlin United Church) 20014 Nissouri Road, Thorndale ON with Larry Schneider officiating. Interment to Robin’s Hill Cemetery to follow the reception. Memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, P.O. Box 767, Winnipeg MB R3C 2L4 or Dorchester United Church.
