Obituary for Mrs. Hazel Novak

Hazel Novak
(nee Wasylenko)

In the early morning on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, under a beautiful full moon with her husband and daughter by her side, Hazel Novak passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.

Hazel was born on December 18, 1947 in Fort William, Ontario, where she met and married her husband of 49 years, Dave Novak. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Lisa Novak into their lives. Hazel was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and friend. Her immediate and extended family was her first priority. She loved gatherings and never failed to remember a birthday or special occasion. Hazel enjoyed cooking for such occasions and events, often having to make dishes that were requested favourites of individuals. She retired from Galaxy Lanes, as the Kitchen Manager, after many years in the food industry. She took great pride in her career and catered many beautiful events and parties. Hazel was also a talented artist. She enjoyed painting, flower arranging and knitting. Her brilliant creations can be observed throughout her home and camp. She cherished her time at Graham. Hazel loved all living creatures and was known to feed them all! Her deep compassion was also demonstrated through her charitable work. Hazel was passionate about the causes she supported, crocheting over 100 blankets for “Project Linus” and knitting hats to donate to various cancer centres and hospitals. Hazel's angelic soul touched so many lives and she will be truly missed by all she encountered.

Hazel is survived by her husband Dave and daughter Lisa Novak; brother Ernie (Debbie) Wasylenko as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Anthony Wasylenko and her sister Victoria Lacroix.

A Celebration of Hazel's Life will take place on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00am at the Royal Canadian Polish Legion, Branch #219 (209 North Cumberland Street). Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Hazel to the Northern Cancer Fund or Kitty Kare would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
