Mrs. Thelma Zelkovich Obituary

ZELKOVICH After a long and productive life, Thelma Irene Zelkovich (nee Adams) passed away peacefully at Hogarth Riverview Manor on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in her 89th year, one year after the death of her husband, Tony, and one year after their 65th wedding anniversary. Born in Fort William in 1927, Thelma attended local schools and started work making munitions at Canadian Car and Foundry during World War II. After the war, she worked at Burton Plumbing and in the grain exchange before marrying and starting a family on Crawford Avenue. She was known for her off-beat sense of humour, which she said helped her cope with having three children in her first four years of marriage. Despite raising four children, she was active in the community, especially with the Boy Scouts and Catholic Women's League at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church. When her children were older, she returned to work as a receptionist at the Westfort Hotel. Never one to sit around, she also worked at Rutledge Stationery, planting trees and picking potatoes before starting her own used book business. In her later years, she enjoyed travelling, reading books, tending to her garden and following her beloved Blue Jays. Thelma is survived by her children: Chris (Liz) of Mississauga, Ont.; Bonnie Bohay (Don) of Englefeld, Sask.; Tim of Thunder Bay and Kerry (Jenny) of Orillia, Ont. She also leaves four grandchildren: Mandy Graf (Peter) of Lloydminster, Alta.; Lauren (Corey) of Orillia; Lacey Fraser (John) of Saskatoon and Kiara of Orillia. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Olivia, Noah, Sophie and Gracie of Lloydminster; Isabelle, Carver and Isaac of Orillia; and Max of Saskatoon. She was predeceased by her husband Anthony; her parents as well as her sister Mona Olsen and brothers Jim and George. The family would like to thank the staffs at St. Joseph Hospital and Hogarth Manor for their caring efforts in making her final 18 months more comfortable. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Thelma Zelkovich will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:10 pm in St. Agnes Roman Catholic (1019 Brown Street). A family graveside ceremony will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Cremation has already taken place. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Thelma to the Ontario Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
