It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Irene Csoka, age 92 years, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in Pinewood Court. Irene was born on February 13, 1926 in Poland. She came to Canada on the ship Samaria on September 18, 1949, becoming a Canadian citizen in 1962. She worked as a cook in a bush camp near Whitefish Lake, where she met (and eventually married) Sandor “Alex” Csoka. Irene was active in the Polish and Hungarian communities in Thunder Bay, she pinched pierogies at the Polish Alliance for decades. She was devoted to her faith and regularly attended Saint Mary's our Lady Queen of Poland Roman Catholic Church.  Sandor and Irene shared a love for animals and they had many pets over the years, Irene wanted to care for any animal she found. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours mushroom and blueberry picking. Irene loved to go to the casino and was always delighted to make trips to Hinckley and Grand Portage. Survived by her close friends, Krys Lupinski (Liz Nadolski) and Emilia Lupinski as well as many other friends in Thunder Bay. Predeceased by her husband Sandor in 2013 and her parents. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Irene Csoka will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 with family and friends gathering in St. Mary’s our Lady Queen of Poland Church for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM celebrated by Father Krystian Sokal. Interment will follow in ST. Andrew's Roman Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. If friends so desire donations may be made to the City of Thunder Bay Animal Services or the Northern Cancer Fund.
