Donald Ramsay Andrews Obituary

Donald Ramsay Andrews passed away peacefully in his 90th year on February 21, 2021 after a brief hospitalization. He was born in Fort William October 6, 1931 to Margaret and Geoffrey Andrews. He is survived by his wife Anne (Roseview Manor), his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Frank Carlisle, and his adored granddaughters Meghan Cote and her husband Tom, and Erin Carlisle all of Barrie, Ontario. He was predeceased by his son David in 1998. He enjoyed growing up in Fort William, joined Army Cadets and learned how to ski at Mt. McKay. In November 1950 he started working as an engineer at the Great Lakes Paper Co. In 1953 he moved to the Provincial Paper Mill. On June 10, 1961 he married Anne MacIntosh in Toronto and they bought a home in Green Acres that he continued to live in until the end. Susan was born December 15, 1962 and David arrived February 6, 1966. In spite of David's many health issues, they provided a loving home for Susan and David with summers spent at camp at Loon Lake and winters spent skiing at Loch Lomond and Candy Mountain. In 1966 he achieved his First-Class Stationary Engineer's license and in July 1967 started work as the chief engineer of the Power Plant at Lakehead University, retiring September 1992. Upon retirement he enjoyed skiing a lot more and essentially lived at Loon from May to October. Although a very quiet and private person, his love of family, his dry sense of humour, and willingness to help anyone out with a mechanical, marine, or other issue - he was the go-to guy, and probably had the part or a good substitute to fix it! Funeral services entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Home, Thunder Bay. A private family graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. In remembrance, please consider charitable donations to the Sick Kids Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
