Obituary

Rentelis, Erika August 28 1926-August 11, 2020 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Erika Rentelis at the Timmins Golden Manor on August 11 2020, at the age of 93. Erika immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1949 where she settled on McDonald Hill to raise her three boys. Erika was a strong spirited, highly intelligent and fiercely independent woman with an inquisitive mind throughout her lifetime. She is predeceased by her son Albert and her cousin Elsa with whom she shared a lifelong bond with. Erika will be missed by her son Andy and Gary (Brenda) both of Timmins and her daughter-in-law Fran. Loving Oma to Alice (Erik), Shane (Shannon), Haley (Tim), Alana and Ava. Cherished Great Oma to Torrin, Lia, Aline, Emily, Molly and Wynn Erika worked at Canadian Tire for 26 years and loved every minute. She enjoyed her work family and it was there she met her best friend of over 50 years Rita Jones. Erika shared a deep-rooted connection with her family in Germany especially her Goddaughter Ursula Kappes (and her family Hans Martin, Thomas and Michael) She often travelled back to Niederstetten with family in tow beaming with pride to share her heritage. Erika was an active member of the German Club, an avid gardener and a legendary story teller. She had an infection laugh, a love for travel and a zest for life. When not enjoying the outdoors, reading, or watering her plants numerous times a day, she could be found sitting too close to the TV or knitting socks for her family. The family would like to thank the nurses and PSWs on the special care and palliative care unit at the Golden Manor for their empathy and compassion. In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the family has made the decision to have a private graveside service. The funeral arrangements are entrusted with Lessard-Stephens Funeral Home. Remembrance donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences or donations can be made at www.lessardstephens.com
