James Kenneth (Ken) Alexander passed away peacefully on the 4th of September, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born in Barrie, Ontario, on November 13th, 1942. He attended high school at Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute, and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, followed by a Bachelor of Laws degree from Western University in 1965 and 1969, respectively. Ken was called to the Bar in 1971. Ken was President of the Ontario Bar Association in 1991-1992, and Member of the National Council of the Canadian Bar Association from 1981-1993. He was actively involved in Legal Aid Ontario, Advocates’ Society, Toronto Lawyers’ Association, and the Cochrane Law Association. Ken has made significant contributions to the Timmins community, having served on the Board of Directors for the Timmins Symphony Orchestra, and the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, and having served as the former Chairman of the Timmins and District Hospital. He was an avid fan of aviation, having attained his student pilot’s license in his later years, and being a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and Royal Canadian Military institute. Ken is survived by his wife Anda (Grikis) of 52 years, son Mark, daughter Laura, brother Peter (wife Jacqueline), brother-in-law Andris Grikis (wife Angie), nephews Guntis and Laris Grikis, and numerous cousins, and second cousins. He is pre-deceased by his mother Grace Wylie (McChesney) Sparrow, his father Jake Alexander, and step-father William (Bill) Sparrow. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at Grace Bible Chapel.
