1941-2020 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother on July 30th at the age of 79 after a short battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Paul (2017), her parents Annette and Marcus Kelly, her brothers Michael (late Bernadette), Gene (late Nicole) and many in-laws. She is survived by her daughters Kim Picard of Calgary and Kelly-Ann Lahaie (Luke) of Timmins. She will be missed by her grandchildren Emily Hache (Andrew) and Scott Hache of Calgary and Spencer and Connor Lahaie of Timmins. She was very loved and will terribly missed by all her siblings: Doris Morrissette (Leo) of Gatineau, Doreen Blais (late Marcel) of Gloucester, Norman (Agathe) of Gatineau, Lily Labelle (late Paul) of Red Deer, Joyce Kelly of St Jerome, Marlene Godin (late George) of Sudbury, Gail Venneri (Sergio) of Timmins, Pat Donovan (late Dave) of Timmins and Colleen Francq (Michel) of Timmins. She is also survived by her sister in law Rita Kennedy (Late Gerry) of Kingston and Yoli Picard (late Roger) of Timmins. She was predeceased by her sister in law Collette Roger (Late Channel). Matante Shirley will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by many friends and extended family who always loved to stop in for a visit. Everyone always felt comfortable in her home. Shirley spent much of her life in service to others. She devoted many years taking care of her ill husband as well as numerous family and friends by way of helping with errands or providing food like her famous butter tarts. She was always there to help when needed. As a founding member of V.O.M.E. (Victims of Mining Environment) she spent many years helping widows receive the compensation owed to them after the death of their husbands who worked and ultimately became ill from working in the mines. This tireless work earned her the “Canada 125” medal in 1992. For the last 9 years she volunteered every Tuesday at St Martin de Porres. She loved her days there helping people find the household items that they needed. Having hosted for decades she knew what people needed to take care of their families and guests. Shirley spent most of her career as a medical secretary starting in medical records at St Mary’s Hospital then she moved on to work for local doctors spending much of her career working for Dr. Kozlik. She loved her job working for local physicians and helping patients. We will miss her hospitality, her wit, and her advice. She was an amazing Mom and a wonderful Grandmaman to her grandchildren who she loved so much!! This loss will leave a big void in our lives and for that we are heartbroken. We will gain strength by knowing we did everything we could to help her during this difficult time. We are grateful to our family and friends who have been wonderfully supportive. Thank you to Dr. Ciccone for his care during this difficult time. During these unprecedented times there will be no visitation. There will be a funeral mass that will take place at St Anthony’s Cathedral on Tuesday August 4th, 2020 at 1pm. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to LESSARD-STEPHENS Funeral Home. Due to the limitations being placed on crowd sizes there will be a total number of 100 people allowed to attend and attendees must follow the guidelines set out by our government. If or when the 100 person limit is reached unfortunately others will have to be turned away with our apologies. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Timmins Food Bank or The Lord’s Kitchen would be appreciated. Her concern for others’ well-being will not stop with her passing. She did not like seeing people in need of food or basic supplies. A random act of kindness with her in mind would always be encouraged.
