Mary Botell Obituary

At the age of 88, Mary Botell passed away on the morning of Friday, September 22nd, 2017 at her home, Stirling Heights Long Term Care, in Cambridge, Ontario. Born on Wednesday, August 14th, 1929, in Saskatchewan, Mary was beloved wife of James Wallace Botell. During her earlier years, Mary worked in the dry cleaning business and cleaning households. As her family began to grow and she welcomed her children, Mary dedicated her life to raising them. Throughout her years living in Agincourt, Whitby and Peterborough, Mary was well known for her talents in the kitchen and her desire to give to others. Family, neighbours and community members would lovingly be surprised with homemade perogies, spinach squares, muffins and especially pickles. “Mary’s pickles” continue to be a treasured family recipe and life-changing experience to all those who taste them. Mary’s devotion and generosity will continue to live on through her family. She is survived by her brother Bill, her sister Nettie and her five children, Jim, Sue, Mary Lou, Reta Ann and Bryan. Mary was a loving grandmother to Jen, Craig, Michael, Brianne, Kathlyn, Christopher, Isaac, Astin and Matt, and great grandmother to nine. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 27th, 2017 at Holy Cross Funeral Home in Thornhill from 11:00-1:00. Subsequent to visitation, there will be a service at 1:00 followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
