Joyce Margaret Hillcoat Toronto, Ontario Obituary

Joyce Margaret Hillcoat

Hillcoat, Joyce Margaret Joyce Hillcoat passed away at the Ajax Hospital on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the age of 93. Born in Pennsylvania to Robert and Eva Anderson, she was the eldest sister to Marjorie (Butcher), and Dorothy Anderson, all pre-deceased. Her father had carpentry skills and took work where he could during the great depression years and eventually relocated in Quebec around the rural Ormstown and Athelstan area. Joyce was introduced to her late husband Jim, through Jim’s sister Peggy Hillcoat (Paddock). They were married shortly after. My mother admired Jim, especially the courage that he displayed in his military service in the RCAF/RAF. They always enjoyed dancing at the Royal Canadian Legion. Joyce was a mother to three children, Jean (Bolton), Kay (Krivickas) and Lyn (Barnes). Joyce was a grandmother to Ann Marie and Adomas. Joyce was a great grandmother to Caroline and Astrid. Whether she was on camping trips or with her family at home, she will be remembered for her lovely meals, apple crisp and lemon pie. She enjoyed working for Meals on Wheels. She took great pride in helping with the grandchildren and marveled at the great grandchildren. She had quick reflexes which included pulling out a granddaughter’s loose tooth. At both Revera homes, she enjoyed music and was fully attentive to the performers that came in to sing, often sitting at the front and joining in. Joyce was a woman of faith. She often referred to her Aunt Bell’s bible that she carried around with her all her life. She talked openly about her faith and was ready to meet her Lord. Joyce will be remembered for her courage, her feisty spirit and determination in overcoming several health issues in recent memory. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke, Ontario with a reception to follow in the lower lounge. Joyce always supported the Canadian Cancer Society so donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
