Ed Fowler Obituary

Born in Galt to Edwin Fowler and Helen (Leadbetter), Ed was a lifetime KW resident, attending Courtland PS and KCI. He maintained a close relationship with his younger brother Ron (Joanne), until Ron’s death in 2015. Ed briefly lived away from the Region in the late 1950s in Toronto, long enough to meet and marry Dorothy (Notley), who was the love of his life for the next 60 years. Ed worked 32 years for Bell Telephone, doing everything from climbing poles to connecting our universities to the world, while he and Dorothy raised two sons, Ed (Martha Taylor) and Jim. In 1990, Ed and Dorothy retired to the good life, discovering flea markets during their winters in Florida and marvelling at summer sunsets over Georgian Bay at Killbear Provincial Park. They cherished time with their grandchildren Ellen and Stuart and were amused by the antics of their grand-dog Buddy. Ed’s passion for trains was lifelong and he found endless tranquility watching them pass, whether full size or as model trains in his basement. When the final whistle blew, Ed was comforted in his home by the eloquence of Van Morrison and by ice cream surreptitiously provided by his grandkids. Ed’s family will receive visitors at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S., Waterloo on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. COVID – 19 protocols will be in place to attend the visitation and relatives and friends must register (RSVP) by calling the funeral home at 519-745-8445. A private family service will be held the following day. Relatives and friends may join the family in the livestream of Ed’s service at www.erbgood.com on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Thanks to all the palliative care providers who supported Ed in his wish to remain at home until the end, and special thanks to PSW saint Bob, whose knowledge and compassion went well beyond the call of duty. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the Grand River Hospital Foundation and may be arranged through the funeral home www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
