Doris Stevens Woodstock, Ontario Obituary

Doris Stevens

STEVENS, Doris Lillian - After a long wonderful life, Doris Lillian Stevens, surrounded by love of family, peacefully transitioned to a well-deserved rest on Tuesday April 11th, 2017 in her 102nd year at PeopleCare Nursing Home in Tavistock. A longtime resident of Woodstock, Doris was born in Toronto on July 24, 1915 to parents Lillian and Frank Biddlecomb. The family moved to Woodstock during Doris’s teen years where she lived for nearly 90 years. Doris married George Stevens in April 1941 and enjoyed over 60 years of a loving relationship until his passing in 2004. A quiet caring woman, Doris was the wonderful mother to daughter Patricia (Pat) James (Ted Morris) of Woodstock, and to son Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Stevens (Karen) of Monarch Beach, California, as well as cherished grandmother to John (Nicole) James, Jason James, Chris (Chanda) Stevens, Ben (Nichelle) Stevens and Susie (Jason) Casero, and great grandmother to Desiree and Shaelynn James (Oakville), Cole and Brynn Stevens (Denver CO), Tovah and Nicholas Stevens (San Clemente, CA) and Jacob, Stella and Chase Casero (Redondo Beach, CA). She is also survived by dear sister-in-law Marjorie Gibbons (Sunnyvale, CA). Doris was predeceased by sisters Margaret Ross and Mary Parker, with whom an enduring love was enjoyed. Doris will be remembered by many, including friendships nurtured during her 20 years as secretary at Huron Park Secondary School, golfing at Craigowan (with a wonderful putting stroke!), providing kindness and assistance with the Woman’s Auxiliary of Woodstock General Hospital (oldest member serving 66 years!), and as a member of “The Girls’ Club” (for which the life-long friends were teased as a misnomer as they each reached advanced maturity!). This was a rich, wonderful life well-lived. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at PeopleCare who provided exceptional care and constant kindness during her last years as a resident. Celebration of life by her family and many friends will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 after noon hour, where the memorial service will be held in the chapel at Brock and Visser Mortuary, 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock (519 539-0004) at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. An interment will be held at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery alongside George at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions to VON Sakura House, to Ronald McDonald House or to George Bray Sports Association would be appreciated and may be arranged through the funeral home. Online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com God speed Doris. The foursome upstairs is holding your tee time.
