Larry Jankoski Ituna, Saskatchewan Obituary

Larry Jankoski

Larry Jankoski of Ituna, beloved husband of Anne, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on September 7, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Lawrence Percy Jankoski was born in Balcarres, Saskatchewan on December 30, 1947. He was the second child of Enid (Eyre) and Philip Jankoski. He grew up on the family farm with his siblings Audrey and Wayne. He ran the family farm which for a time included running the Tullymet General Store. Larry made many miles delivering fuel all over Tullymet and beyond. In 1968, Larry married Anne Paslawski of Hubbard. They built a house near the same spot his grandfather had homesteaded in 1903. There, they raised four children. Except for the last two years, Larry spent his whole life in Tullymet. Larry took great pride in his family, his farm, and his heritage. He felt a strong connection to the land and to the history of this province. He believed deeply in the value of community service. That is why over the years he devoted much time and energy to the R.M. and various clubs and committees: The Wyber Community Club, the Ituna Curling Club, the Balcarres Housing Authority, the Rural Economic Development Committee. Larry served as both Reeve and councillor for the R.M. of Tullymet for 25 years. Dad was a people person, a local historian, and a story-teller. He loved being with his family, especially his thirteen grandchildren. He liked visiting with neighbours, reminiscing with friends, and meeting new people. He left us too soon. Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne, and four children: Leanne (Danny) Kozun of Ituna and granddaughters Sarah (Jason); Jessica (Levi); Stephanie (Drew); and Michaela. Pamela (Blaine) Broderick of Golden, BC and grandchildren Aidan, Eve, and William. Jodie (Lindsay) Horvath of Kelliher and grandchildren Noah, Carter and Paxton. Joshua (Cherie) Jankoski of Tullymet and grandchildren Thaya, Everett and Cole. His brother Wayne Jankoski and sister Audrey (Don) Braden both of Tullymet; his brother-in-law John (Judy) Paslawski of Regina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Enid and Philip, and his mother-in-law, Anastasia Paslawski. The Funeral Service (Under the auspices of Lakeside United Church) was held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Brian Mee officiating. The organist, Paulette van der Helm led the congregation in the singing of the hymns. Scripture readings were given by Sarah, Stephanie and Michaela Kozun. Reflections of Larry's life were shared by son Joshua who also served as the urn bearer. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, Suite 800, 2323 Yonge St. Toronto, ON M4P 2C9 in memory of Larry could be made as gifts of remembrance.
