Valentrina 'Val' Sastaunik Obituary

God welcomed our Angel Valentrina (Val) Julia Sastaunik into his arms on June 6, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, SK surrounded by her loving family. Val was born in Melville, SK on May 21, 1930 where she attended school. She worked as a receptionist at St. Peter's Hospital and in the Dr's office. While at a hockey game she met her future husband Art. They were married in Melville on October 18, 1954 and celebrated a loving marriage of nearly 65 years. Val's greatest fulfilment was being a homemaker. She was the heart and soul of their home and raised 3 children with the help of her unwavering faith in God. Val's family always came first and was especially happy to spend time with her grandchildren. She was selfless, kind, and compassionate towards animals and never said no to helping people. She devoted her spare time volunteering around her community, notably for Melville Minor Sports, the rink canteen, where she was affectionately known as 'the little general'. Val's greatest passions were cooking, baking and gardening. Val was a proud member of St. Peter's Hospital Auxiliary and the Melville Horticultural Society. Val and Art took great pride and dedication in creating a remarkable yard and garden winning several awards for their efforts. Val especially loved flowers. For many years she took on the responsibility of caring for the flowers and plants at St. Henry's Parish. Val will be greatly missed by her devoted husband Art, beloved mother to Randy (Donna), Genelle, and Blair (Debbie). Grandchildren Becky (Garrett), Michael (Czarina), Brett (Bree), Derek (Autumn), Jordan (Lindsay), Lindsay, Brendan, Jaden and Reece. Great grandchildren Mira, Dominic, Benjamin and Eloise. Also mourning are her sisters Sophie Borys and Billie (Lloyd) Sastaunik. In- laws Pearl Ness, Harold (Lydia) Sastaunik, Doris (Carl) Dietz, Ken Sastaunik and numerous nieces and nephews.
