Walter Dietrich

Walter William Dietrich was born on March 13, 1927 on the family farm in the Killay District of Saskatchewan, a son to Edmund and Theresa (nee Hanowski) Dietrich. Walter received his education at Wallacetown School in the Killaly area. He helped on the family farm later he purchased his own land. Walter was united in marriage to Othelia Graff on October 20, 1947 at St. Elizabeth’s R.C. Church in Killaly. The couple farmed for a while then moved to Kelowna and was proud to say he helped build the Floating Bridge. Walter also worked at a fruit plant. Walter’s dream was farming so they moved back to Saskatchewan and purchased a farm near Melville but decided to sell and moved to a farm in the Killaly, Neudorf districts. Later they purchased a farm in the Grayson area, then sold and bought a farm close to Melville again. In 1983 they retired and moved into Melville. Walter was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, he worked at Bingo’s, booked different functions for the Knight’s Hall as well was the caretaker. He enjoyed playing the game aggravation, playing cards, curling, playing on the computor, playing pool where he would often win tournaments. He loved music and played the harmonica. Walter loved family gatherings which always included his favorite foods. He enjoyed driving, and going with Othelia to the Casino. Walter, Othelia and Doris Walter’s sister took a trip to the States with Jerry at the wheel. One of Walter’s many wishes was to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary which they were able to do in 2017. Walter entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville at the age of 92 years. Predeceased by is wife Othelia, parents, Edmund and Theresa, brother, Harold (Violet) and sister, Doris (George) Mathies, father-in-law, Andrew and mother-in-law, Amelia Graff; brothers-in-law, Gordon, Erwin (Adeline), Ernie (Joyce) and Clayton; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Henry), Pearl (Grant) and Arlene (Roy). Walter leaves to cherish his children, Gerald (Marge); Sharon (Dennis), Lorne (Audrey), Randy (Dianne), Bruce and Rodney (Candace); 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Helen (Kieth), Doreen (Ferdinand) and Shirley (Danny); three brothers-in-law, Elmer (Mary), Ron and Wayne (Pat); sisters-in-law, Kathleen Graff, Sandy Graff, Jancie Graff and Hilda Schofer. Mr. Walter Dietrich of Melville, widow of Tillie Dietrich, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the age of ninety-two years. A private family service will be held.
