Obituary for Albert Ray Stevenson

STEVENSON â€" Albert Ray
May 1, 1950 â€" May 25, 2008

Albert passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife Peggy at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on Sunday May 25, 2008. Albert began his fight with cancer in 2002 beginning with bone marrow cancer called multiple myeloma. Treatment was hard on his body, but he rallied with the help of a stem cell transplant. In 2004 he was one of the few men to be struck down with breast cancer and after numerous operations and a fight to live he rallied again. In 2008 he received his 3rd cancer diagnosis with the discovery of a cancer growth in his right eye that was successfully removed. Albert fought hard from the beginning of 2008 with fluid build up in his right lung. When it was finally diagnosed as being lung cancer Albert was too weak to fight and after apologizing to his family for giving up the fight, he accepted his fate and with the loving support of his family he went peacefully to a much better place. The gates of heaven swung wide open at 5:00 a.m. May 25th when God invited our angel Albert into heaven. Albert was born in Prince Albert to Fred and Polly Stevenson. Albert is survived by Peggy (nee Nyberg) his loving wife of 30 years; his two wonderful sons Michael of Christopher Lake and Kevin of Saskatoon; his sister Grace Evenson of Wanham, AB; his brothers Walter (Ella) of Marcelin and Alvin (Bev) of Prince Albert and as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by his parents Fred Stevenson in 1983 and Polly Stevenson in 2006. The family of Albert Stevenson would like to know that they would have lost Albert in 2002 had it not been for the stem cell transplant performed by Dr. Michael Voralia and his team in the transplant program. They ask that you please make all donations in lieu of other tributes to the “Hematology Blood and Transplant Program”. Their wish is for as many people as possible to have another chance at life as Albert did. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 â€" 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at the South Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
