October 9, 1914 to November 9, 2008

Earl Stanley Atkinson, 94, passed away peacefully November 9, 2008, at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert with his children by his side. Earl was born October 9, 1914, in Russellville, Saskatchewan, to William Kennedy and Edith (Stanley) Atkinson. Earl lived on the family farm where he met Mary Elizabeth Harper. They were married on February 23, 1942 and lived in Flin Flon, Manitoba. After returning to Prince Albert, Earl worked at various occupations. He later founded a contracting and building moving business which he operated for many years. At this time, their son, Paul was born. Earl also worked under contract with Canada Post, hauling mail from Prince Albert to Melfort and Nipawin until his retirement in 1983. Earl worked hard but he also enjoyed relaxing with Mary and Paul at their cottage on Emma Lake. After Mary’s passing, Earl met and married Reina Cooney (nee Lauzon). They spent a good part of their retirement years traveling across western Canada in their RV. In June 2000, Earl embarked on an Alaskan cruise with his son and grandchildren " something he had always dreamed of doing. Earl is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ronda Atkinson; grandchildren, Ian and Rachelle Atkinson; sister May (Jack) Hall; and sister-in-law Cathie Atkinson. Earl was predeceased by his first wife Mary and his second wife Reina; sisters Ruby, Charlotte, Ida, Margaret; and brothers Albert, George, Arthur, Walter, Vernon, Howard, Herb, John, Clifford. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Mont St. Joseph Foundation, 777 " 28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 8C2. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2008 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 " 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Ches Jacobs officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
