Obituary for Elfriede Charlotte Moses

MOSES â€" Elfriede
February 12, 1935 â€" April 23, 2008

Elfriede Charlotte Seeger was born on February 12, 1935 in Breslau (Silesia). During World War II, she, her mother, and her eight siblings had to leave for Husum (North Germany). From this time on, she always loved this region, home of the novelist, Theodor Storm. After living in Switzerland for two years, she returned to Germany. She married Heinz Holzportz and they were blessed with three daughters, Sylvia, Vera, and Birgit. Elfriede became a widow at the age of thirty. In spite of many challenges, she continued to be a devoted mother to her precious children. Elfriede’s dream to experience the beautiful natural forests and the wide open prairies of Saskatchewan came true when she came to Canada at the age of forty-one to marry Herbert Moses. Twenty-six years later she was widowed for the second time. Elfriede’s life then changed direction again. Together with George Dyck, her great love, she was allowed to have some wonderful years of true companionship. He faithfully stood by her side when she became very ill. Her life was creative and full of energy and humour. She accepted her fate with dignity and left behind a legacy of true concern and real compassion for her family and friends. Blessed be her memory.
