ROYER â€" Elmire
April 20, 1910 â€" April 17, 2009
Elmire Royer was born April 20, 1910 at St. Laurent de Grandin. She was the fourth child of Joseph and Virginia Gervais, a family of ten children. She attended school in St. Laurent de Grandin. After her schooling she went to work at a bakery in Duck Lake, SK where she helped bake bread and clean. She returned home when her mother got sick to help her father with her brothers and sisters as her mother was hospitalized for many months. Once her mother returned home, Elmire went out to work in other family homes with the house work and children. That is when she met Andre Royer from the Bremner district close to St. Louis, SK. Elmire and Andre were married in 1934 and shortly after moved on to their own farm where they had cattle, milk cows, horses, sheep and chickens. They raised eight children, four boys and four girls. Elmire was very busy with her family and the farm. She would spin the sheep’s wool and knit socks and mittens for the children and would even sell some to other people. Elmire also really enjoyed gardening. There were always lots of potatoes and vegetables to can for the winter months. Even when they moved to St. Louis in 1973 she made sure that she would have lots of garden space and she did. In 2008 she still planted her garden and had lovely flowers all around her house. Elmire and Andre both belonged to the Saint Joseph Senior Citizens Club. Elmire was very involved in the club and was on the committee when the Bowling Alley and Hall were built, a great addition to the village. She sure enjoyed going there to bowl and play cards. Elmire is survived by three daughters Celine Royer of St. Louis, SK, Marie (Arnold) Braaten of Birch Hills, SK and Yvonne (Brian) Swain of St. Louis, SK; two sons George (Ruth) Royer of Edmonton, AB and Felix (Bev) Royer of Maple Creek, SK; daughter-in-law Thelma Royer of Edmonton, AB; plus 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; her sister Lorna Dubray of Meadow Lake, SK and many nieces and nephews. Elmire was predeceased by her husband Andre Royer (1994); her sons Stanley Royer (1966) and Arthur Royer (2000); her daughter Rose-Ann Royer (1966); her parents Joseph and Virginia (nee Quillette) Gervais; daughter-in-law Ramone Royer (1966); grandsons Edward Royer (1966) and Gerald Royer (2004); her five brothers Alfred, George, Roderick, Johnny, Jean and Maxime and her two sisters Florence Bremner and Lena Gerard.
