When I first started at the Herb Bassett Home I vowed I would not get close to any of the residents for fear of loosing them one day. Evelyn however quickly became special to me.
Each morning I looked forward to her genuine hug and conversation. One morning before all the lights were turned on and the staff were in report I could sense someone was looking at me. I turned and there was Evelyn standing at the desk in her bed clothes. She quietly said, "Is it too early for a hug?" On many occasions, Evelyn would do a "Little Jig" to the music as she walked down the hall to see the entertainment. Friday before she passed, I stopped in to see how she was before my shift was over. I washed her face and hands then applied lotion. She thanked me and said that it made her feel better. In her next sentence she commented on how beautiful the music sounded and wanted to know who the entertainment was. She was interested and enjoyed the music even when she wasn't feeling well.
Evelyn was a classy lady with a huge heart. She was always loving and giving. I only knew her for 11 months but will always fondly remember her and miss her.
Thank-You for sharing your Mom sis!
