Obituary for Freda Amundson

AMUNDSON - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Freda, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Freda passed away peacefully at 6:30 AM on Wednesday November 12, 2008, at her home in Birch Hills with her husband and daughter by her side. Freda was born May 18, 1925 in Klepp, Norway. At the age of 2½, Freda, her mom and 2 siblings joined her father in Canada where the family settled north of Weldon. The family then moved to Park Valley and took up a homestead in 1929-30. Freda started school as a teenager as schooling was previously unavailable in the Park Valley area. At the age of 18, Freda got a job housekeeping in the Hagen area, and later in the Birch Hills and Weldon areas. One of her jobs was working for the Amundson brothers near Weldon. Later on, while working for the Hendrickson family, a courtship started with Joseph, whom she married on October 19, 1949. They farmed and raised their five children on the original homestead until 1981 when they moved into Weldon. In 2004 they moved into Birch Hills. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Joseph; daughter Carol (Phil) Sampson and their sons Darryl, Dalton (Rhonda) and children Jordan, Brooklyn, Landon, and Nate, Dustin (Fawn) and Derek (Faye); son Eldon (Judy) and their children Kyle and Holly; son Phil (Vicki) and their daughters Kara (Greg) and Kelly; son Wayne and his children Carter, Kaylene and Shane; and daughter Lynette (Ron) Hannigan and their children Adrienne, Brett and Jeremy. She also leaves brothers Pete (Ann) and Ruben (Darlene), sister Clara Olson, sister-in-law Margaret, brothers-in-law Leonard Young, Reuben (Julia) Amundson, Chester Liste, and numerous nieces and nephews. Freda was predeceased by her parents, Severin and Karen Vaadeland, brother Arne, sister Kate Young, brother-in-law Eric Olson and Joseph’s other six brothers and six sisters. Freda had a deep faith in God and spent much time praying for family, friends and acquaintances. She was not afraid to meet her Heavenly Father. She is free from pain. Freda will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Freda’s funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 18, 2008 at the New Life Center in Weldon, SK with Mr. Merv Sundbo and Mr. Albert Hannigan officiating. Interment will be held at Birch Hills Cemetery, Birch Hills, SK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
