Harry Major, age 77 years, passed away at Victoria Hospital on Sunday, February 17, 2008 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; daughter Beverley (Gary) Semchuk and their children Lori (Richard) Dyok and their children Brianna and Ashlyn; Lindsey (Wes) Hermann and their children Julianne and Lauryn; Brendan Semchuk and child Keegan Wolfe; long time friends Bernice Thompson, Paul and Rita Logodin; all of his northern friends and numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his parents Charles (1963) and Katherine (1974); sisters Anne (1942) and Mary (1990); brothers George (1972), Alfred (1994), Frank (1988) and Mike (1999). Harry was born in Fir Ridge and was the youngest of 8 children to Charles and Katherine (Orychyn) Major. Harry attended Birson Elementary School and PACI High School. Harry worked for Carl Zurowski hauling gas around the Prince Albert area. In 1954, Harry began his 32 year career with Canada Post, as a letter carrier, a postal clerk, then as a supervisor before retiring in 1985. After retirement, Harry focused on what was special to him, his cabin at Weyakwin Lake. Harry loved the life at the lake, the peacefulness, fishing, wildlife and all of his close friends. Harry was a devoted family man. His wife, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him. His sense of humour stayed with him even in his last weeks at the Victoria Hospital Palliative Care. Thank you to all those who supported us in the recent loss of a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend. In lieu of other tributes donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation/Palliative Care Unit. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 " 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. with the Reverend Tony Thompson officiating.
