LEHNER â€" Joseph, it is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Junior Lehner, Sr. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Victoria Hospital at the age of 76 years after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Joe was born and raised in Prince Albert. In 1951, he enrolled in the army and saw active duty in Korea. Late in 1952, he returned home to Prince Albert and wed his wife, Martina. Together, they raised six children. He worked at a variety of jobs including a scrap iron business, hauling black dirt and landscaping. It was in the mid 1950’s that Dad started his fence post business. In the early 1960’s, his eldest brother, Bisko, joined him. In 1964, Dad moved to White Fox to be closer to the bush where he could harvest the fence posts. Here, he continued his business on his own. Dad also had a small mixed farm in Love, Saskatchewan. In 1967, Dad and his family moved back home to Prince Albert. This is when he purchased some land in the Red Wing area and setup his fence post treating plant and saw mill operation (Industrial Wood Preservers). Here, he and his eldest son, Lionel, worked for 24 years providing fencing materials to farmers and ranchers across Saskatchewan and Alberta. Joe was an avid HAM and CB radio operator and enjoyed speaking to people all over the world. He was a caring and loving husband and father. Many an hour was spent watching his brothers and sons play hockey in the winter and summers were spent traveling and watching them at horse jumping shows. He also tried to attend all of his grandchildren’s events, singing, dancing and hockey games. After retiring in 1991, Dad was still active with his boys hauling posts and lumber, attending auction sales and helping at the farm. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 54 years, Martina; his sons Lionel, Joey (Nola), Stirling (Donna); daughters Corinne, Barbara, Rhonda (Dan); grandchildren Heidi (Grant), Jory (Barb), Chelsea and Josie, Katelyn and Karson, Mathew and Kieran; great grandchildren Lexa Rai and Hayden; brothers John (Debbie), Ron (June), Bill, Bob (Hope), Tom (Jeanette); brother-in-law Tom Janes; sisters Irene, Susan (Bob) and Carol; sisters-in-law Yvonne and Rita Parsons as well as special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Kristi Rai; his mother and dad, John and Anne Lehner; brother Bisko; sister Joyce; brothers-in-law Ray, Bill, Jack, Dave and Tom and sister-in-law Esther. It was in the mid 1990’s when he began to struggle with memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease. With the devoted love and support of his family, he was able to stay at home until his admission to the hospital in late April of this year. Dad always had a twinkle in his eye and a dance in his step. Dad was a kind and gentle man and will be dearly missed. At Joseph’s request, there will be no funeral service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel. Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
