Obituary for Joyce Mary Ellison

ELLISON, Joyce Mary

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandma and Great Grandma. Mom passed away on April 14, 2009 at the age of 81. She was born September 25, 1927 in Spruce Home, SK, and attended Wheatley School. She was married to her husband Ev for 59 years. Over the years Mom was recognized for her many years of commitment to her community. Among her many achievements, she was inducted into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame in 1995, was Secretary of the Foster Parents Group for 4 years and taught Sunday School for several years. Mom was a very good bowler in her day, her greatest joy came with coaching many children and adults. It was a lifelong passion. Mom had a green thumb and could spend hours outside at the lake and home taking care of the flowers, gardens and birds. She had a passion for collecting dolls. Mom also did rock painting, crocheting and playing piano. She loved to decorate the house for special events. Mom spent many hours at the ball diamonds and hockey rinks watching her children. She played the mouth organ and entertained at the Lion’s Nursing Home, Mount St. Joseph’s and Pineview Terrace with a puppet act for years. Mom’s life was full of caring and helping other people. She was the core of our family and we will miss her dearly. We feel blessed that we had loving and caring parents. Mom is survived by her son Garry Ellison, her three daughters Debbie Ellison, Kula Ellison, and Rita McCallum; her sister Dorothy Mah of Prince Albert, her brothers Colin (Doreen) Woodley of Prince Albert, Fred (Lena) Woodley of Prince Albert, Ray (Betty) Woodley of Edmonton, AB; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends, and her very special friend Carol Flasch whom Mom spent many hours with and adored. She was a foster parent to forty-six children. She was predeceased by her husband Everett; parents Albert and Lottie Woodley; her brother Jack Woodley; sister-in-laws Opal Ibbitson and Ruth Woodley; and brother-in-laws Gordon Gavel and Fred Mah. In lieu of other tributes, the family requests that donations in Joyce’s name be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Mom’s wish of a graveside service for family and friends will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. A come and go tea will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575-28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK after the graveside service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
