Obituary for Paula Irene Mary Hazel

Hazel - Paula Irene Mary concluded her time in this world on June 18, 2010, having resided in Prince Albert her entire life. She was born March 24, 1923, the only child of Lyma and James Porter and the family resided in the Harphill Block on 10th street East. After her marriage to Cyril Hazel in September, 1945 they lived in the Harphill for a short while before taking up residence on 9th Street East. Paula was pre-deceased by her husband and best friend of 58 years on February 16th, 2004 and her presence, love and care will be missed by her son Richard (Dorothy); daughters Laurie Primeau (Manny) and Heather Borowski; grandchildren Jeff Primeau (Kourtney), Greg Hazel (Paula), Maury Primeau (Brandi), Megan Hazel-Quinney (Shaun), Sara Borowski, Mitchell Borowski and great grandchildren Morgan and Rylee Primeau, Trevor and Zander Primeau and Emilia Fiorante Hazel. Paula's life was centred around her family, her church and a wide circle of good friends with whom she absolutely loved to spend time. She was always up on the latest news from her children and her grandchildren with whom she would share her wit and wisdom and much laughter. Paula worked at the airport during the Second World War, and often told the story of being driven to work across the river ice in the spring-time, with the water that sat on top of the ice surface splashing up and over the front of the car. In later years she worked with the Department of Northern Saskatchewan when its offices were located on First Avenue West. She survived many of those in her friendship circle, and she had to carry with her the weight of having lost her independence over the last seven years due to a set of physical challenges. The family extends its deep and grateful appreciation to the nurses, staff and volunteers of Pineview Terrace Lodge for their genuine and compassionate care provided over the last six years. Thanks also to Dr.Unsworth for his thoughtful medical oversight. “Where we go when we die – into the hearts of those who love us.” Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Ches Jacobs officiating. Private Family Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Crossroads Pentecostal Assembly, 1510 Olive Diefenbaker Drive, Prince Albert, SK S6V 7H4 or Pineview Terrace Lodge, 701 - 13th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 3H2 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, PO Box 12013, Stn Brm B, Toronto, ON M7Y 2L3.
