McDONALD â€" Robert John (Bert)
It is with sadness the family of Bert McDonald announce his passing at Mont St. Joseph on Saturday, September 6, 2008. Bert was born January 16, 1916. He was raised on the family farm in the Alingly district. His father had homesteaded the farm in 1910. Bert actively farmed this same land until 2002. Our Dad loved the farm and was always eager to get out on the land first thing in the spring. Our Dad was always a gentleman. He was very hospitable and no one went away from his home hungry. He loved to talk to people and tell stories. He loved to reminisce about his ball playing years. Ball was his passion and he was a very good ball player. He started playing with and against men when he was 13. He loved to fish and hunt. In 1939 he married Janet Bremner. He was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Bert was an active member of his community. He was an active member of Sask. Wheat Pool, serving in all position at the local level. He helped bring electricity to our area. The school board was also important to him and he was a board member for many years. He hauled coal to keep the furnace going at Fortsburg school. He belonged to the snowplow clubs and worked many long cold hours to open roads in the wintertime. Dad and Mom attended Faith United Church at Spruce Home for many years. For about a year and a half Dad had been a resident of Mont St. Joseph. He made many new friends. His family appreciated the many kind and compassionate caregivers. Left to cherish his memory are his children Beth (Dale) Neal, Bill (Dianne) McDonald, Jeanne McDonald and Barbara (Read) Pease; his aunt Gladys Gillies; his grandchildren Michael (Vanessa) Neal & Adina, Matthew and Ethan; Wendy (Tim) Skotheim & Maria; Jeannie (Darren) Tisdale; Leigh (Matthew) Breadner & Lyndon & Eric; Andy (Sarah) Neal & Avery; Dana McDonald & Pierre Delodge; Heather (Paul) Wild & Natalie; Glen McDonald & Clarissa Reid & Madison; Carol McDonald; Bonnie (Eric) Braaten & Liam; Vernon (Lindsay) Pease & Clayton & Samantha. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years Janet; his parents Neil & Mabel McDonald; his brother Lorne and his sister Helen Eileen (Bee). In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or Mont St. Joseph Foundation. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 60 â€" 12th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Dr. R.M.A. Sandy Scott officiating.
