THOMAS HENRY CARTIER

Passed away peacefully at the Royal University Hospital on June 5, 2007. Tom farmed and was an ardent sportsman; baseball being one of his great loves. He played several positions and excelled in pitching for the White Star Tigers. He curled, hunted, fished and especially loved his animals, the horses being his favorite. The horses exposed Tom and Rose to many people and traveling; horse sales in Moose Jaw for nine years, travels to Oklahoma, Texas, Germany, Sweden, Montana, North and South Dakota and Kansas. Tom helped form the White Star beef and light horse 4-H Clubs. He was involved in many community projects, he was president of the Sask Wheat Pool, instrumental in the leasing of the land and building the Red River Roping and Riding Club, in which he was president for several years. Tom helped get the trail riders arena at Spruce Home started. He was involved with the Prince Albert Exhibition for 35 years being a director and president. Tom was a councilor for the RM of Buckland. He also was the director and president of Northern Livestock Cooperative Stockyards. He did the legwork for the land, which is now known as Corner Stone. He was also president of Cloverdale Hall for several years. Tom was not afraid to tackle any job or anyone. He helped many neighbours with their animals and calving. He received a second chance at life when he received a kidney transplant in 1995, which was a great success. Tomâ€™s problems started after being in several vehicle accidents and his life began to change. Being in more pain with every additional one. His whole personality changed and he was not the person we had known. His life became a struggle and a fight to survive. Tom passed away on June 5th from a stroke. Leaving to mourn his passing, his wife of 49 years Rose; his children Janice (Roger Boucher), Wayne, Daryl (Gayle), Robert (Brenda); grandchildren Colleen (Jared Kirby), Roger Jr. (Adreanna), Dominique (Justin Dryka), Carson, Hailey, Tanner, Colton and Kelsey Cartier; great grandchildren Karlen, Jaden and Gracie; a special son Bob Hassard; six brothers Arthur, Arnold (Ethel), Bill Leonard, Allister (Arlene) and Mark; three sisters Evelyn Brandon, Angelina Mckenzie and Vivian (Wayne Bertram) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his parents Odias and Yvonne Cartier; sisters Gertie December, Delia Latzkowski and Lil Tait; sister-in-law Lil and Charlotte Cartier; brother-in-law Norman Brandon, William Tait and Leo Latzkowski. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 4th Ave W, with the Celebrant being Reverend Father Maurice Fiolleau. Interment will be held at White Star Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, anyone wishing to place memorial donations may do so to the Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of donorâ€™s choice.
