Clarence was born in Beatty, SK and grew up on the family farm near Polwarth, SK. Clarence had many fond memories of his childhood which included playing softball, skating, skiing, and attending Silent Call School. When Clarence first left home, he went to Ontario and worked in the bush, cutting and skidding wood with horses. When he returned to Saskatchewan he began a lifelong career working first for CN Rail and then CN Grainlines. Throughout his railroad career, he was stationed at many different communities - Mont Nebo, Greenbush, Brancepeth, Shellbrook, Melfort, and Prince Albert. Clarence finished his career in Saskatoon. Over the years Clarence had a wide variety of interests. He operated a sewer business with his brother Lawrence. He cut and sold thousands of cords of wood, with his latest project being sandbags. While many of us would call these ventures “work”, for Clarence, it was pure “enjoyment”. Clarence was also an active member of the Legion and the Lions club. Clarence also loved gardening, picking berries, reading, square dancing, fishing, hunting, panning for gold, playing cards, going to the casino, lending a helping hand to anyone and everyone, and spending time with his family. Clarence married Arlene (Dody) Thompson in 1958. Throughout their 40 years of marriage, they raised their four children – Barry, Tim, Janet and Shannon. Clarence and Dody enjoyed square dancing, travelling, camping, spending time with family at the cabin at Memorial Lake, and at the farm at Mont Nebo. When Clarence retired, they moved from Saskatoon to the acreage just outside of Shell Lake and were actively involved in the community. Dody predeceased Clarence in 1998. In 2003, Clarence married Peggy Monks and welcomed her and her nine children and their families into his life. Clarence and Peggy enjoyed two trips to Ireland, playing cards together around the countryside, and were active in the Catholic church and the Legion. Clarence was predeceased by: his parents: Nathan and Jenny; his siblings: Calvin, and Ethel Dafoe, Violet Marshall, Lawrence, George and Roy Dafoe; his wife: Dody; his in-laws: Jacob and Selma Thompson; his brothers in law: Jack Thompson, Tony Thompson, and Herold Marshall; his sister-in-law: Viola Dafoe; and his son-in-law: Norman Sarich. On the Dafoe side, Clarence is survived by his four children; one daughter in law; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife: Peggy; her nine children and their spouses, and numerous grandchildren and great children. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lion’s Hall in Shell Lake on Saturday, December 17, 2016 - 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice can be made.
