Karen Kiss Obituary

KISS: Karen (nee KOCZKA) Apr. 14, 1955 – Dec. 1, 2019 Karen was born to George and Marion Koczka in Toronto in 1955. She was the younger sister to her big brother Dennis. She attended elementary and high school in Toronto. In 1979 her dad, George, took early retirement and moved to Watrous with Marion and Karen. In 1980, she married Ted Kiss and they had two daughters, Darlene and Amanda. Eventually they became grandparents to three girls, Kayleigh, Sierra and Mykaela. Karen faced many health challenges through the years, some of which were due to a serious car accident, which the entire family was involved in while she was still a child. A series of strokes left her wheelchair bound for many years and her husband Ted took good care of her until his failing health left him unable to do so. She then moved into various long-term care facilities, changing locations until her final residence at Manitou Lodge in Watrous. There she was able to spend time with her "best friend", her father George. George's passing 2 years ago was very hard on Karen, she often said that she had lost her best friend. She never really recovered from that loss and her health declined further after that. Her final illness was swift and her passing was peaceful, surrounded by Amanda, Sierra and Dennis. Karen took great joy in her favourite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays and in the summer of 2018 she travelled to Toronto with her daughter Darlene and granddaughter Kayleigh and was able to attend a game. On that trip, with the help of her brother Dennis, she was able to visit Casa Loma, go up the CN Tower, take the ferry to Centre Island and visit the Science Centre. She thoroughly enjoyed that trip and one of her prized possessions was a Blue Jays sweatshirt. Karen also enjoyed her granddaughters and was delighted when they visited her. A Memorial Service will be held in the Watrous United Church, Watrous SK on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. JoAnn Hills officiating. Interment will follow in Watrous Cemetery.
