Tina Schellenberg Obituary

Tina was born on January 30, 1924 to Niklaus and Katharina (Paetkau) Braun. She was the fourth of eight children. The family lived in Jegnatov No 4 Alexanderthal South Russia until 1926 when they made their move to Canada arriving in Quebec September 1926. Together the Paetkau family ended up in Main Center Duff area where she began her schooling. From there the family moved to Parkerview, Saskatchewan. Tina was baptized on May 27, 1942 into the General Conference Mennonite Church. As a young girl Tina went to Main Center to help with Aunt Helen Wiens with looking after her triplets. From there she moved to Wishart and worked for Gerhardt and Anna Schellenberg as a housekeeper. This is where she met their son John Schellenberg. John and Tina were married on June 21,1944 and lived with John’s parents and brother George till 1953. At this point they built their own farmstead and moved there with their two sons Bernard and Richard. Shortly after the move Dennis was born and a few years after that Nelson came along. Here they raised the four boys and had a mixed farming operation. Tina enjoyed farming and took an active part in the farming operation along with gardening and maintaining the family home. She and John also loved to travel. They made numerous trips to northern Saskatchewan, the west coast and a bus trip to Mexico. Church was always a big part of their life. She and John both sang in the choir in Wishart. In 1978, John and Tina built a new home in Drake and moved there for semi-retirement. Here she became active at the Lanigan thrift store where she donated her time and handmade treasures to those less fortunate through MCC. Tina was an avid gardener and very gifted in quilting, sewing, crocheting, and making many delicious meals. They enjoyed the company of friends, at their church, drop in center and home. Family was very important to Tina and she gave them many of her hand made gifts such as blankets, doilies, and pot holders just to name a few. Tina was predeceased by her husband John in 1998 after 54 years of marriage. A few years after John’s passing, Tina moved to Saskatoon where she continued to volunteer her time to the Saskatoon Thrift Store. Most recently she moved to the Lanigan Central Park Lodge until her passing. Tina’s memory will be carried on through her loving children Bernard (Pat) and their sons Chris (Kim), Brent (Erin), Richard and his children Vanessa Sim (Mike Tkachuk) and Beau , Dennis (Kathy) and their sons Ryan (Meagan) Devan (Kim), Nelson (Denise) and their children Leanne, Chelsea, and Evan, eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Also her brother Ben (Elizabeth) Brown and sister Mary Penner and many nieces and nephews. Tina will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Tina’s family wish to thank the caring staff from the Lanigan Central Parkland Lodge for the loving care that they provided.
