Elmer "E.J" Dempsey Jr. age 71, of Oneonta passed away Friday, February 7th, 2020 at St. Vincent's East. Survivors include sons Keith Dempsey (Whitney), Terry Washburn, Danny Washburn (Jamie), Chris Washburn (Rhonda), daughter Sandy Bailey, brother Ray Dempsey, sisters Jean Dempsey, Christine Dempsey, Faye Phillips, grandchildren Peyton and Bailey Dempsey, Ryan, Riley, and Raven Bailey, Emalee and Jacob Graves, Tyler, Jacob, Alex, Katie Marie, Justin, Brody and Caleb Washburn . Mr. Dempsey is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Gladys Dempsey Sr., wife Linda Dempsey, brothers Billy Bob, Melvin, Demont, and Tommy Dempsey, sisters Vivian Epps, Sara Betty Peoples, and Ruby Butts. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 9, 2020, at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church from 12pm until 2pm. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 2:00pm in the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Mt. Hebron cemetery. Mr. Dempsey loved to fish, he was a lifetime member of the Bass Masters club.He enjoyed his horses, farming and his tractor, and was an avid Alabama fan. Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
