Funeral will be 1 pm Sunday at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. Orell Harrison Kilpatrick, age 96, of Gadsden who died Friday. Brother Kevin Kilpatrick and Brother Joel Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Orell Kilpatrick was a graduate of Crossville High School proudly served in the US Army 8th Infantry Division, during WWII. He retired from U.S. Postal service and E.G. Ace Hardware. He also served as a deacon at N.G. Baptist church and Paden Baptist Church where he willingly and selflessly served on numerous committees, mission trips and Carpenters For Christ.
Mr. Kilpatrick was a devoted follower of Christ and cherished his relationship with the Lord. He loved people and valued time spent with family and friends. He modeled the characteristics of a Godly son, brother, husband, father, and friend. Mr. Kilpatrick generously shared his joy and wisdom with others, He was a great man of service, as he took pride in serving his country, community and family often sacrificially. His hobbies included woodworking and playing the guitar; He passed down his love for music to his son and grandchildren, and shared his woodworking talent with his son and grandson. Mr. Kilpatrick most notably taught his family the value of integrity, hard work and loving your neighbor as yourself.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Sybil Kilpatrick, son, Kenneth Kilpatrick, brothers, James R “Bud”(Faye) Kilpatrick, Fernwood (Sue) Davis.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law Lana Kilpatrick, grandchildren; Brian (Jennifer) Kilpatrick, Kevin (Kriszti) Kilpatrick, Kimberly (Scott) Fells, Kasey (Tarrah) Kilpatrick, great grandchildren, Noah and Ben Kilpatrick, Gracie and Jake Ede, Sawyer Kilpatrick and Lincoln Kilpatrick, brother-in-law Guy(Jewell) Ross; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Paden Baptist Church.
Special thanks to Amedysis Hospice, Nurses Luke, Misty and Carmen, Manna Meals on Wheels and care givers Jodi Leighton and Jennifer Chastain who so lovingly cared for Mr. Kilpatrick in his final days.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 12-1 pm until the time of service.
