Charles Edward York December 29, 1942 - September 14, 2019 "The Lord doth build up Jerusalem: he gathered together the outcasts of Israel. He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite." Psalm 147: 1-5 Mr. Charles Edward York was born on December 29, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama. He exchanged his earthly home for eternity on September 14, 2019, at a local hospital. Mr. York was a 1961 graduate of Williamson High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1970. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mr. York was also a retiree of Scott Paper Company of Mobile, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Willie, Sr. and Gertie York; eight siblings: five brothers: Walter Y ork, Johnnie Sylvester, James Sylvester, Willie York, Jr., and Robert York; three sisters: Wilhelmina York, Rosemary Jones, and Rosetta Clemon; his former wife, Love Joyce Y ork, the mother of his children, also preceded him in death. Charles left to cherish his memories are three devoted sisters: Mary (Andrew) Patterson of Chicago, IL, Dorothy Flynn of Carrollton, TX and Sarah (Benjamin) Cain of Dorchester, MA; two devoted brothers: Vernon (Ethel) York of Denver, CO and George (Kitty) York of Mobile, AL; four daughters: Patrice (Will) Tolton of TN, Angelia, Corlissa, and Ava Marie York "the apple of his eye"; two grandsons: Juane and Javaris Tolton; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous devoted friends including his companion, Wanda; members of the American Legion Post 76, Mr. & Mrs. Bonham, Mr. Michael Hall, Mr. Keith Dillard, Mr.Rodney Hunter, and his "Colgin Street" Family.
