Glenn Ross Martin passed away peacefully in his sleep August 16, 2011 after a brief illness. Glenn was 69 years old. He was a lifelong resident of Selma and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Glenn was born Feb. 25, 1942 in Selma. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Harmon Martin and Frances Crisman Martin, his brother Cecil Crockett Martin, his aunts Evie Dozier Crisman and Mildred Martin Crisman, and his cousin James C. Crisman Jr. Glenn is survived by his niece and nephew Paige and Paul Martin, his uncle Lewie R. Crisman and cousins Rivers Crisman, Connie Crisman Birk and children John, Margaret and Catherine; Sarah Crisman Cater and daughter, Elizabeth Ann; Otey Crisman III and sons Brian and Tyson; Edwin G. Crisman; Kristen Crisman Foley and Dr. Jay Crisman ...and too many young ones to list.
Glenn loved the game of golf and was an avid and accomplished golfer, following the Crisman family tradition of which Glenn was very proud. For many years he worked in the golf shop at Selma Country Club for golf pro Bud Burns and greatly enjoyed this time of life. He won the city golf championship at Craig Field in 1996, and successfully defended it in 1997. Glenn always wore a big smile, had a warm heart and a generous spirit, often beyond his means. He was a good and helpful neighbor to those he lived near. Glenn would often call View-Point or write the local editor to comment on people or local occurrences and he always gave a positive kind word. He also volunteered and delivered Meals on Wheels as a way to reach out to others in his community. He loved to be around people, was wonderful with children, and he loved his friends and family...especially his dear Mother who he cared for until she was 91. Glenn was loved dearly, and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 19, from 1:30 to 2:30 at the Lawrence-Brown Funeral Home in Selma, followed by graveside service at the Old Live Oak Cemetery at 3 pm, with Rev. Russell Morrow officiating.
The family asks that any donations in memory of Glenn be made to Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, or Cahaba Center in Selma.
